Welcome to auckland Marine Rescue centre

We are the control and coordination centre for rescue and marine safety operations for the Coastguard NZ, Auckland Coastguard and Surf Lifesaving Northern Region, covering the whole of Auckland. We also support the operations of other marine services, such as the Harbourmaster and the Maritime Police. Our facility in Mechanics Bay was built with a grant from the Auckland Harbour Board in 1991, and we have proudly supported Auckland marine safety operations ever since.

Rescue services coordinated from the AMRC protect a wide and diverse range of people enjoying access to the harbours and beaches surrounding our beautiful city. We are proud to support the community and our tenants, working together to maintain a safe marine environment for all.

Our Commitment to Maritime Safety

We are responsible for the maintenance, management, and development of the AMRC building to ensure our partners can continue to support the community. The current Trust was elected in 2023, and over the last year, we've focused on restoring the centre to a good working state. Now, we are turning our eyes to the future of this critical piece of infrastructure.

As a charity, we currently rely on subsidised rent from our tenants, who exist solely to support the community, so any additional financial support is welcomed. Our commitment to maritime safety is at the core of everything we do, and we are excited to see our vision for the AMRC come to fruition.

Meet the board

    Dawie Olivier

    Dawie Olivier is a seasoned executive and board advisor with extensive experience in the financial services industry. He has held leadership roles at prominent institutions, driving innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable growth. As a former Naval Officer and lifelong marine enthusiast, the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre falls squarely in the space between his experience and his passions.

    Nik Webb-Shephard

    Nik has over 16 years experience in General Management, Operations, Health, Safety Risk, and Compliance, alongside high level Facility Management knowledge. Having been the New Zealand COO for global tertiary student accommodation provider Campus Living Villages and CEO for Social Enterprise Child Labor Free, Nik has extensive skills and experience in staff and site management, systems creation and implementation, and project management.

    Daniel Williams

    With over two decades of experience in the infrastructure and construction industry, Daniel has developed a deep expertise in project delivery spanning feasibility, design, consenting, procurement and construction. His governance experience is also extensive and diverse, having served as a company director, trustee for investment entities, and a board member on various joint ventures and project governance boards.

    Moana O'Neil

    Moana grew up around the Manukau Harbour, so appreciates the need to uplift and support Marine Rescue.  With 25 years’ experience in leadership, strategy and consulting, she naturally identifies issues and how they might be resolved. In her role as a Trustee and Treasurer, she brings the value of her experience in a range of C-Suite roles, including running a number of charities and SMEs.

    Karen Farr

    Karen has worked in a supporting manager role for a number of business associations since 2010 and prior to that in office manager and executive PA roles. Karen now owns and runs Executive Office Ltd, who provide leading membership organisation management. Karen brings her organisation, efficiency and proactiveness to AMRCT to support the Trustees in their busy roles.

    Troy Churton

    Troy has over 15 years' experience  in local council governance, community engagement and senior Crown advisory roles. He is active in planning and resource management advocacy and is certified as a Commissioner for RMA hearings.
